For Partners
Spanish and Illinois can connect your business or organization
with our students of Spanish. They can provide your enterprise with valuable Spanish language skills and cultural knowledge. They also represent potential future
employees. Please contact us if you would like to become a community partner.
In preparation for our students' work in your organization during the Fall 2008 semester, we have scheduled your orientations for Thursday, August 28 1:00 - 5:00. Students may then begin working at their regularly scheduled times. They will not work on 9/1 (Labor Day), during fall break (11/24-11/28), and December 10 is their last day.
At the orientation, students typically want to know:
-
your mission statement
-
how their work contributes to that mission
-
general office procedures
-
what to do and what not to do
-
to whom they should report and who can answer their questions
-
any specialized knowledge and Spanish vocabulary they need
-
specific stories of past students' successes
-
specific examples of past student mistakes (no names!)
Students are required to work with the community partner for 28 hours during the semester. This is usually done by working 2 hours every week, but can be tailored to the orgnization and/or student's needs.
